One of the characters (Beth Taylor) is shooing a rifle at a carnival RIGHT handed and hitting everything she aims at. The problem is she has her right eye close and is sighting with her LEFT eye. For those who shoot, you must realize this is quite a feat! As a kid I could only close my right eye so I had to learn to be the dead shot that I am left handed. It’s the only thing I can do left handed.

No wonder our brothers and sisters on the other side of the pond always need our help when the shooting starts :-)Davidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16187708185054504743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628784339273990273.post-55936366685893031582009-07-27T12:09:00.000-05:002009-09-20T12:11:25.120-05:00Tampa FL - July 2009Davidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16187708185054504743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628784339273990273.post-89607682800786361182009-07-22T21:53:00.003-05:002009-07-22T22:04:47.857-05:00The Henry Ford Museum
Walked around The Henry Ford Museum today. I just have to think, "That would be a stupid way to die, getting hit by a car while lounging around on the parking lot of the city park".Davidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16187708185054504743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628784339273990273.post-50657216189614616992009-06-01T07:26:00.002-05:002009-06-01T07:41:04.471-05:00Star Trek MovieMy thoughts on the new Star Trek Movie: The movie Was great! Go see it now! As a Star Trek fan, I disappointed with two things. First, I felt like it ended feeling like George Lucas's second go around with the Star Wars movies. Second (**spoiler**), ending with the parallel universe and so that everything thats been written is now irrelevant was disappointing, though if i were JJ Abram and wanted to make more ST movies I would have done he same thing in order to remove the restrictions your story's would have. After thinking on it way to much, I didn't like the Spock, Uhura thing either.Davidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16187708185054504743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628784339273990273.post-30401882977285065602009-05-15T21:16:00.000-05:002009-05-17T21:18:07.052-05:00Sprayed the lawn with weed killerDavidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16187708185054504743noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628784339273990273.post-62119284910234460622009-05-03T07:22:00.004-05:002009-05-03T15:14:19.487-05:00The Chateau on the Lake

April 28 through the 30th one of the departments we support sponsored a conference in Branson at The Chateau on the Lake to witch I was required (got) to go. None of it really pertained to IT but it was a nice get away.

The Chateau on the Lake is a beautiful hotel sitting on top of a hill all by itself overlooking Table Rock Lake. My first impression was WOW, this place is incredible. It has a long deck that overlooks the lake witch turned out to be a great place to gather in the evening, watch the sun set and drink tequilas while snaking on jalapenos, white cheddar, chocolate covered popcorn form Harry and Dave’s (amazingly it’s a lot better than it sounds). There were several gathering places though out with seating that was made both for looks and for comfort. There was a constant sound of moving water and chirping birds form the nature themed waterfalls and live birds. The Chateau is a wonderful place to kick back an relax
Now for my complaints!

The rooms didn’t have a refrigerators or microwaves.

The room had a 50 inch HDTV but only received an analog signal. Analog looks terrible on high def TV’s. If you have an analog signal your best to show it on an analog device.

They charged for the wi-fi. Normally I wouldn’t have cared but I couldn’t get a 3G connection on my cell phone wireless card.

There were no paper or disposable cups in the room, they were all glass. After watching the news reports on how some housekeeping cleans dishes in hotel rooms I refuse to drink out of real glass or ceramic mugs.

When I opened the window in my room I got this really loud roaring sound of some kind of equipment, probably air conditioners (room 309)

Most of our free time was spent jumping from restaurant to restaurant. Our first night went down to the landing and ate at a little Mexican placed called “Cantina Laredo”. We ate out on the deck on what couldn’t have been a nicer evening. The Guacamole was prepared fresh at the table as well as our desert which created a flame ball as it was prepared. Every thing was great.

The hotels cheapest breakfast was $14 so we made a trip to wall mart to pick up some fruit and breakfast bars for breakfast to save us from the gouging.

Lunch the next day was at Danna’s Bar-B-Que and Burger. Stupid me, I had the fried catfish sandwich. My lunch was so-so. Everyone else loved their hamburgers and bbq.

For dinner that night we ate at “Shogun Japanese Steak and Sushi”. This is one of those places where everyone sits around a griddle and the food is prepared as entertainment in front of the diners.

Breakfast the next morning was at McFarland's per my friend Kelly’s recommendation. I had the best skillet breakfast I’ve ever had. If you go, be sure to get their gravy.

On the drive home we stopped at Missouri Hick BBQ in Sullivan. As always I got a half slab of ribs. Everyone should have the joy once in their lives of eating ribs from Missouri Hick.

Davidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16187708185054504743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628784339273990273.post-70107555417910008392009-05-03T06:21:00.001-05:002009-05-03T06:25:35.222-05:00Yard workMay 2, 2009 - Fertilized the lawn with "Scotts Lawn Pro Super Turf Builder."Davidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16187708185054504743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628784339273990273.post-33110919494086160902009-01-19T09:18:00.002-06:002009-01-19T09:26:42.993-06:00Shock and Awe"Shock and awe" has a new meaning... The best way to do this is to plan on going into downtown DC on the weekend or a federal holiday when parking at the metro station is free and an all day metro pass is only $7.80.

Otherwise, on work days, you must contened with the commuters going to work. It's almost impossable to find a parking place unless you get there really early. It's also alot more expensive to ride the metro.
Davidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16187708185054504743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628784339273990273.post-20297763882416910972008-12-24T21:00:00.000-06:002008-12-29T09:59:11.887-06:00Christmas Eve Family Photo

Christmas Eve after the Candle Light Service at Church

Davidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16187708185054504743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628784339273990273.post-58707379588753473322008-12-20T10:17:00.009-06:002008-12-20T10:59:06.139-06:00Hair Cut
After going letting my hair grow long (for me) for the holiday photos that will be taken, I walked up to the Great Clips to get my hair cleaned up. I walked into the shop stood at the desk for awhile(they were really busy), no one came to get my name, so I sat back down to wait. Someone else came in and they took his name right away. Soo...

I started walking down Manchester to another salon type place in the Schnucks plaza. On the way I started to pass by the "Des Peres Barber Shop". Ever since I moved to Des Peres I have been telling myself that I needed to try it out so in I went. I'm glad I did. First off I was greeted , then growled at by a small dog who I quickly won over by rubbing his butt. Any place that has a dog on the premises immediately gets points in my book. My hair was done my Mary, the dogs owner.

It has been years since I have been to a barber. Since high school I have been going to places like Great Clips with a saloon type feel to them. For the same price, $15 + tip, Mary washed the back of my neck(kind of a mini massage), trimed my hair lines with a razor rather than electric trimmers, worked on my eyebrows & ears without being asked, and cleaned off my hair with a warm towl. I dont think I'll ever go back to one of those saloon places again!

They don't seem to have a website but here is the information from the business card I picked up.

Des Peres Barber Shop
Appointments Available
314-822-2636
12023 Manchester Road
Tuesday thru Friday - 8:30 am to 5:30 pm
Saturday 8:00 am to 3:00 pm
Davidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16187708185054504743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628784339273990273.post-30197278547534006382008-12-15T21:11:00.003-06:002008-12-15T21:13:30.942-06:00Iraqi lobs loafer at Bush
This Iraqi journalist threw his shoe at President Bush… what a joke, what is funnier is that the American press is reporting that the Iraqi people are revering him as a hero. None of their driveways have a sidewalk so you have to walk down a curvy driveway hoping no one comes around the corner at a ridicules speed.

Really I wouldn't care, but I used to like being able to walk the Barns and Nobel bookstore which has now moved to the mall.
Davidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16187708185054504743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628784339273990273.post-78059664527907826982008-12-07T09:34:00.003-06:002008-12-07T21:18:26.026-06:00SuperfeetAfter a couple of years of my feet hurting I finally took the recommendation of a number of people and bought a pair of Superfeet for $34 about a month ago from Angie at the Alpine Shop in Kirkwood. I'm glad I did.

Angie explained that (this is the way I understood it) in this day and age we walk on flat surfaces everywhere we go so the muscles in our feet don't develop like it would if we had to walk on unpaved surfaces. Our arches need more support and that the inserts in most shoes are just cheep pieces of foam that break down quickly and don't provide the support needed.

My feet have felt ten times better ever since. and I would highly recommend anyone who's feet are bothering then to give them a try. Angie recommended the Blue ones be cause she described my feet as "meaty" as apposed to the Green ones that my friends recommended.

I also understand they sometimes help people with back pain.
Davidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16187708185054504743noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628784339273990273.post-76339941932343697502008-12-02T20:53:00.000-06:002008-12-06T09:22:07.646-06:00Downed TreesToday I had four more small but problematic trees removed this week by Ottiger Tree Services for $800.
